Agriculture is the main occupation of the people and nearly 30% of the Landless People also depend on the wages they earn from Agriculture activities.  The area beinglocated in a Industrially backward part of the state, mainly agricultural forms the avocation of the people.  The  landless and small farmers entirely depend on the Agricultural Coolly they earn from the wages. During non Agricultural season they migrate, daily, to nearby town and bigger villagers for construction or other nature of work.  Many families migrate to the nearby Banana plantations and Sugarcane groves for daily wages.


The small and marginal farmers and mainly Agriculture Coolly workers forms the considerable chunk of the population in these two blocks.  This shows that un-employment and under employment in the population is very high.  Also working population, landless laborers and bonded laborers who constituted the major chunk of the workforce, were very high in percentage.These unions are predominantly Agriculture based rural Economy Prevaliage one. 


we look into the rural scenarios each Panchayat will have one or two traditional tanks and wet lend forms ayacut to these traditional irrigation tank.  Chains of tank system and wet land of each layout region forming catchments to the next tank.  The rain fall being mostly concentrated during north east monsoon of October, November and December and rain fall pattern is such that, the above rain water harvesting system and water resources management created by the fore fathers of this region enable 100% accurate water management as well as water harvesting as well as a fool proof Agro-climatic managerial one that suits the cropping pattern and Agro-societal management. 


The People near the coast venture out in the sea to catch fish and it is   the Main over vocation for the stretch of about 40 Kilometers costal line in the area.  During off –season and restrictive non-fishing period they migrate to nearby paces for daily Coolly work.  Most of the fishermen family is involved in dry fish trade.  They have under went various trainings to prepare fish net.  Fish marketing, net manufacturing and boat repairs are the major revenue-yielding arena in the coastal belt.

The rural economy centers on the Agricultural activity based on the availability of water in the tank or otherwise. The life-line and back bone to the rural village’s economy is the agricultural activities under the wet land ayacut of theses tank system.  OAZOANE is also trying to instill status improvement and personality improvement by providing the general social awareness and technical awareness education programmes at all level on par with SHG women members.   The income generating development awareness will provide information about various opportunities available to them to earn a decent income. 

Economical Empowerment and Overall Development is one of the core initiatives of the OAZOANE.  To promote   Economic Development for the women in rural areas, OAZOANE has been Promoting and Organizing Self Help Groups and linked with Micro Credit and Income Generative Activities. Thrift & Credit activities are the main activities among the women to enhance their rural economy to become self-reliant.  The women in the project areas are in the process of empowerment with the help of following the Micro Credit activities. It is estimated that majority of the people that is about 80% of the Landless belongs to the SC/ST people are in poverty and do not have any assets or economic resources for their survival. More than 47% of the people are engaged in agricultural and related activities. Agriculture is the major source for the unorganized workers. Construction sector is the second rank for the unorganized sector.

About 70% of the target groups in the project areas are still engaged as coolies in the agricultural fields and other unorganized sectors. The conditions of the rural women belongs to SC/ST is simply appalling and they always face many problems due to poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, exploitation, environment degradation, health problems and exploited by the political parties, violence and other local economic problems. The women are depended on various sectors for their livelihood and survival. They are also engaged in construction, Weaving, Domestic, and other unorganized sectors such as rice-mills, forest works, and road works.  To a large extend, the women in the project areas among the SC/ST are still remain unemployed and underemployed and voice less.
